Historical Research

One of the pleasing by-products of my interest in all historical subjects is the experience I have gained of researching a wide variety of topics using both primary and secondary sources. Concerning the former, I have studied everything from Anglo-Saxon and Medieval charters through to 20th century council committee minutes. I have explored such things as monasticism, disease, crime, domestic life, maritime and military matters, the slave trade, the British Empire and family and local history. I certainly cannot claim to have used every type of source and really do not know everything! But I do possess a sound general overview of what is available and where to get it.

Concerning secondary sources, I am an avid reader of all kinds of history books, including the great classics by such people as Gibbon, Macaulay and A.J.P. Taylor and, being a late developer, I actually have an ambition to be like them one day, although time is running out! All of this means that I am able to carry out research on any topic for anybody who wants me to do so.

My fees are £15 per hour of work, plus expenses. I am prepared to go to any repository and to take on any topic. Discuss your needs with me via my contact page.

Thank you for reading this page. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best wishes,
